Positive Psychology is the science of what makes life worth living and is centered around theories and research involving understanding and developing wellbeing, optimal functioning and positive traits such as Hope, Resilience and Flourishing. The science of Positive Psychology can provide the evidence-based framework around a high standard of coaching practice.Whilst good coaching practices involve forming co-created relationships with clients, the application of Positive Psychology tools, techniques and approaches within coaching sessions can provide profound and unique benefits for all people, including, improved wellbeing, flourishing, engagement and performance.

Course Description

 

This course would be of interest to coaches, managers, team leaders, Human Resources and Learning and Development professionals as well as Psychology graduates and Positive Psychology postgraduates. Students will gain knowledge, tools and skills that will enable them to apply the scientifically supported interventions of Positive Psychology to the practise of supporting others through coaching.

The course leader, Dr Ceri Sims offers a unique mix of academic input and practical application. She is both a Coaching Psychologist and Associate Professor who has both breadth and depth of expertise in this specialist area of training through her experience of lecturing and researching as well as coaching, which is grounded in her knowledge of Psychology and Positive Psychology. 

Who should attend?

This course would be of interest to coaches, managers, team leaders, Human Resources and Learning and Development professionals as well as Psychology graduates and Positive Psychology postgraduates. Attendees will gain some experience and acquire knowledge, tools and skills that will enable them to start to apply the scientifically supported interventions of Positive Psychology to the practise of supporting others through coaching. Course attendees will receive a certificate of attendance from Bucks New University (CPD hours). Students are expected to complete monthly homework as part of the course although doing homework and keeping a self-reflective journal is not formally assessed.

- Coaching Psychologist – a way of being

- Evidence based coaching models and Positive Psychology Interventions

- Professional issues around coaching others and professional practice

- Coaching skills using Positive Psychology

- Appreciative coaching and Solution focus for building positivity and goal orientation

- Strengths development and striving towards self-concordant goals

- Challenging self-limiting beliefs for increased wellbeing and resilience

- Second Wave Positive Psychology Coaching

-Coaching as a Nature based Intervention

Course Delivery

The short course involves attending 6 sessions, 5 of which are online (weekday) and one of which is hybrid (can attend online or in-person at BNU High Wycombe campus). The cours einvolves experiential group work, co-coaching and feedback.

Course attendees will receive a certificate of attendance from Bucks New University (CPD hours). Students are expected to complete monthly homework as part of the course although doing homework and keeping a self-reflective journal is not formally assessed.

  • One full day event per month over 3 months = 36.5 hours, Additional total 11.5 hours FDL learning - Total = 48 CPD hours

Attendance: Online attendance for the course will be required on one full day per month over the six month course duration. The 6th session will be held at BNU’s High Wycombe campus so will be a hybrid session (you can choose whether to attend in person or online)

(It is recommended that course attendees aim to attend and participate in all of these 6 days. However, if there is a particular date that you are unable to attend, please contact the course leader to request the learning materials for that month)

What’s included?

The course fee includes all course material accessed through the unviersity’s Blackboard, together with a certificate of attendance from Buckinghamshire New University.
